Assistant Managing Clerk
About the role
The Assistant Managing Clerk assists the Managing Attorney and Managing Clerk in rendering substantive procedural guidance to attorneys and staff at the Firm. This role ensures compliance with court rules and maintains accurate tracking of litigation deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Aid in reviewing, preparing, and electronically filing in federal, state, appellate, and bankruptcy courts.
- Analyze court documents for all deadlines applicable, offering guidance on court rules and litigation procedures to legal staff and attorneys.
- Collaborate, manage, and oversee quality control and work product of other staff members, providing guidance to support efficiency and consistency in docketing and calendaring practices.
- Liaise with court personnel and external vendors, coordinating services such as subpoenas and notices.
- Selectively bill time as authorized by partners.
- Draft legal procedural documents for review by attorneys.
- Support the Managing Clerk and Managing Attorney in keeping staff updated on changes in procedures in federal and state courts, distributing information, and assisting with training of personnel.
- Assist with supervising MCO staff alongside the Managing Clerk and Managing Attorney.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Required: Bachelor’s degree
- Preferred: JD or some law school coursework
- Required: 6+ years of relevant experience
- Essential: Superior knowledge of New York, California, and federal rules of civil procedure
- Essential: Effective oral and written communication with attorneys and staff regarding complex legal procedures
- Essential: Ability to manage multiple/simultaneous requests, assign priorities, and achieve solutions within deadlines
- Essential: Effective sharing of knowledge and resources with appropriate parties, both internally and externally
- Essential: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to make sound decisions, escalating as appropriate
- Essential: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as attention to detail
- Essential: Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding environment
- Essential: Proven ability to exercise initiative and sound independent judgment

CA Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible.
