Assistant Manager Trades Shop (HVAC)
About the role
Supervises the HVAC Shop, HVAC preventive maintenance program, repairs of University facilities or equipment which requires specialized training in the HVAC trade. Directly supervises at least five (5) classified staff.
Responsibilities
- Supervises at least five (5) or more skilled trades personnel in the HVAC shop; assists in enforcing policies and procedures; prioritizes schedules and assigns tasks; trains, monitors and evaluates performance; makes recommendations regarding discipline.
- Manages preventive maintenance program of HVAC systems.
- Aids in overseeing shop operations; sets priorities; prepares cost estimates.
- Impacts staff retention; participates in selection and onboarding of new team members.
- Reviews completed work of employees and contractors; ensures that any needed changes or corrections are made.
- Researches and evaluates new materials and equipment; makes recommendations regarding purchase.
- Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; reorders as necessary; maintains department records and work orders.
- May assist in maintenance and repair work, as needed.
Requirements
- Requires 18 months training beyond high school in a skilled trade and four years of experience in that trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to be a qualified driver under the Universities MVR policy.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of a particular trade.
- Supervisory skills.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and/or mechanical diagrams.
Skills
- CMMS experience.
- Commercial HVAC system knowledge.
- Experience with refrigeration systems.
- Building Automation System experience.
