Assistant Manager, Offshore Operations
Partner with the Manager, Offshore Operations and business leaders to develop and maintain operational strategies for Estes’ service to offshore markets (Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Hawaii). Assume all responsibilities in the Manager’s absence.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing all phases of offshore operations, including monitoring inbound freight movement, measurement and weighing of shipments, and ensuring an excellent customer experience.
- Lead, guide, mentor, and direct offshore team employees; participate in hiring, training, and terminations while ensuring adherence to company guidelines.
- Collaborate with offshore-market agents to ensure prompt quoting, pickup, and delivery of freight.
- Manage customer and Hacienda Tax office files for accurate and timely filing of Puerto Rico shipments.
- Ensure proper staging and loading of containers to maximize cube utilization, safety, and ease of reloading for customers.
- Work with customers and team members to create required transportation documentation, including Bills of Lading.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding shipping documents by tracing shipments across departments and service centers.
- Build relationships to assist in booking steamships.
- Regular attendance is required; perform any additional duties as assigned based on operational, safety, or other needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of LTL or transportation experience.
- Prior supervisory experience highly preferred.
- General knowledge of U.S. exports and steamship line policies.
- Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and AS/400 system.
- Ability to work independently or in a team in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with tight deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Mental and emotional capability to handle high-pressure situations.
- Ability to lift approximately 20 lbs. or more as required by job functions.
- Compliance with all company policies, rules, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under time constraints.
- Ability to read, interpret, and comply with written documents (e.g., safety rules, procedure manuals) with high comprehension.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen, random drug/alcohol tests, and criminal background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.

- Regularly required to talk or hear; specific vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently required to sit and use hands to operate computers and standard office equipment.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, lift, twist, turn, and reach with hands and arms.
- Capable of lifting a minimum of 20 lbs. or more as required by job functions.
