About the role
The Manufacturing Assistant Manager is a M-F leadership position located at 6130 E. 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46226. The general salary range is $50-$60K, with full benefits.
Responsibilities
- Perform oversight of production operations, including review of schedules, product specifications, and delivery timelines.
- Ensure alignment of daily production activities with safety, quality, output, cost, and delivery targets.
- Communicate with customers and internal partners to clarify requirements and improve service outcomes.
- Develop and manage labor schedules to optimize workforce utilization and meet production demand.
- Maintain production status and intervene as needed to resolve issues and prevent delays.
- Lead, coach, and develop Team Leaders and assembly line staff to drive performance and accountability.
- Assess Team Leader effectiveness and build leadership capability through feedback and mentoring.
- Promote a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback, recognition, and corrective action.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and cross-training to strengthen workforce capability.
- Manage departmental financial performance, including P&L awareness, labor costs, and productivity.
- Analyze key performance metrics such as labor efficiency, scrap, and cost per unit to improve results.
- Identify and implement cost-saving and margin improvement initiatives.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles, including 5S, to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for quality and process issues.
- Lead and sustain continuous improvement initiatives.
- Sustain compliance with safety and environmental regulations and internal policies.
- Investigate incidents and implement preventative actions to reduce risk and cost.
- Oversee equipment performance and coordinate maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Utilize production data to support decision-making and operational improvements.
- Deliver regular communication of performance metrics to drive alignment and accountability.

- Manufacturing Operations and Process Improvement: Possesses familiarity with warehousing and inventory controls, lean manufacturing systems, quality management systems, and LEAN philosophies as they apply to a plant manufacturing environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Has working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office.
- Communication Skills: Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers’ needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.
