This is a regular, full-time administration position working Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexible or extended hours as needed. Regular on-campus presence is expected, though hybrid schedules may be approved based on college needs.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Bookstore, this position oversees coordination with faculty on ordering instructional materials and selling them to students. The role also serves as backup to the Bookstore Manager and assists the Retail Store when needed.

Kellogg Community College is located in Battle Creek, Michigan, a community of approximately 54,000 people with access to leisure activities, natural resources, and learning opportunities. Battle Creek is within 30 minutes of Kalamazoo, 60 minutes of Lansing and Grand Rapids, and within three hours of Detroit, Chicago, and Indianapolis.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Materials Management
    • Coordinate ordering, receiving, merchandising, and inventory of textbooks and course materials with faculty and publishers.
    • Manage the textbook management system and maintain knowledge of current industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies.
    • Administer and maintain the bookstore's online ordering platform, ensuring accurate product listings, order fulfillment, and a positive customer experience.
    • Ensure quality customer service to internal customers.
  • Bookstore Management Backup and Collaboration
    • Serve as the primary backup to the Bookstore Manager by assisting with daily oversight of bookstore operations and staff, ensuring continuity of services during absences.
    • Assist Retail Store operations as needed.
    • Represent the bookstore by maintaining positive working relationships with students, employees, vendors, faculty, and community members.
    • Assist the Manager, Bookstore with marketing initiatives, such as promotional campaigns and special events.
  • Financial Management
    • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions for textbooks and retail merchandise while ensuring accuracy and timely payment or collection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) or equivalent in General Business, obtained from an accredited college or university. Unofficial transcripts showing degree and date of conferral must be uploaded at time of application.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of retail experience with accounting or financial management.
  • Knowledge of textbook and instructional materials management systems.

Physical Demands

The role is performed in an office and presentation venues, with travel by car required. Responsibilities include:

  • Intermittent periods of physical exertion, such as independent mobility between work areas, sitting, stooping, bending, and lifting materials or equipment (8–45 pounds).
  • Regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration.
  • Meeting reasonable deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, with occasional mildly unpleasant situations.

Pay

According to the Kellogg Community College Hay Administrative Compensation program, the annual salary range for this position is $57,262 to $71,576 to start.
