Assistant Manager

About the role

The Assistant Manager plays a critical leadership role in running a high-performing Pet Care Center. You support the General Manager in ensuring the health, safety, and proper handling of all animals, promoting a safe, welcoming environment, and acting with integrity and care in every decision.

Responsibilities

- Uphold Petco’s animal care standards. - Lead, motivate, and engage store partners. - Support hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of store partners. - Provide timely coaching, feedback, and recognition. - Ensure the store is clean, organized, and visually appealing. - Support daily store operations. - Drive sales, service, and operational goals. - Monitor store performance metrics. - Assist with inventory control, merchandising execution, and promotional events. - Step into leadership responsibilities and decision-making. - Resolve escalated customer concerns.

Requirements

- 2+ years of retail experience, including supervisory or management experience. - Proven ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team. - Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and Microsoft Office applications. - Passion for animals and knowledge of pet care strongly preferred.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (optional). - Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. - Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. - Flexibility to travel for training, meetings, or community engagement.

Pay

Salary range: $45,000 - $55,000 annually.

Schedule

Full-time position with flexible hours to support Petco’s operating schedule.
