About the Role

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Store Manager is to manage the store in the absence of the Store Manager. This role requires strong leadership skills to motivate and supervise team members while exemplifying the company’s culture. The Assistant Store Manager will have expertise in company culture, merchandising, shrink control, and operational aspects of the store. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the local market, customer base, seasonality opportunities, and competitors.

The Assistant Store Manager serves as a role model, leader, problem-solver, and strategic thinker, helping the Store Manager drive sales and profits through merchandising, inventory management, expense control, human resource management, and controlling operating costs.

Responsibilities

  • Promote Family Farm and Home’s mission statement and family values.
  • Assist the Store Manager in fostering an aggressive sales culture with a focus on superior customer service.
  • Support the Store Manager in hiring, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and evaluating team members; plan, monitor, and assess job performance.
  • Maintain professionalism and positive store morale.
  • Assist the Store Manager in executing all store job responsibilities through key associates or direct action.
  • Complete store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results.
  • Provide feedback to corporate teams, including buyers, district managers, and other company officials.
  • Achieve financial objectives by assisting in annual budget preparation, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Identify current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with customers and potential customers.
  • Build relationships and support local community groups consistent with company values.
  • Encourage customers to sign up for Family Farm and Home programs, such as the loyalty program, extended warranties, financing, and item of the month.
  • Manage and protect all inventory and company assets in accordance with company policy to prevent theft and damage.
  • Verify merchandise is received, stored, and merchandised according to operational and safety procedures.
  • Protect team members and customers by complying with legal requirements and maintaining a safe, clean store environment.
  • Assist the Store Manager in determining marketing strategy changes by reviewing operating and financial statements and departmental sales records.
  • Maintain consistent operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or company officials.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage with limited supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for effective interaction with customers, vendors, and associates.
  • Understanding of aggressive customer service and team-oriented values.
  • Good management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret data presented in statistical or numerical form and use it to assess and coordinate merchandise and operational aspects of store operations.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures, climb ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
