Assistant Maintenance Coordinator

About the role

This position is located in the Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, Fleet and Family Readiness Support Office/Facilities Department, Virginia Beach, VA. The role supervises construction and renovation team members and performs hands-on work in the construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of assigned facilities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, repair, renovation, and new construction projects for over 200 buildings across multiple sites, including Naval Support Activity Norfolk, Naval Station Norfolk, NAB Little Creek, NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex, Weapons Station Yorktown, Cheatham Annex, and Norfolk Navy Shipyard.
• Manage projects from planning through completion, including minor to major repairs, renovations, and special projects.
• Supervise an assigned workforce crew (rotating assignments) consisting of electricians, maintenance mechanics (carpentry, HVAC, plumbing), and laborers to meet job requirements.
• Manage all facets of assigned projects or full jobs, including planning, implementation, and oversight.
• Provide rough estimates of project costs, personnel, equipment, and materials needed; submit cost and time estimates and material recommendations.
• Convey and explain plans, concepts, and drawings from the N94 Facilities Director to the workforce crew.
• Oversee up to $200,000 in equipment, vehicles, and tools, and procure over $150,000 in building materials and tools annually.
• Prepare purchase requests, ensure procurement procedures are followed, and verify delivery, quality, inspection, and acceptance of materials.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and internal standards for money, merchandise, and assets on each project or phase.

Requirements

• Must pass all applicable records and background checks and successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• A minimum of two years documented general experience and two years documented specialized experience in applicable trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to read, write, and follow plans and specifications; communicate verbally; and perform math computations and measurements.
• Subject to irregular tour of duty, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license; travel to work sites is required.
• Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals must have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA installations.

Qualifications

• Certificate or license in at least one major trade (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) is strongly preferred, but may be substituted by a minimum of two years of general trades experience with at least one year of documented specialized training and/or experience in a combination of the listed trades.
• A minimum of two years of supervisory experience is required.
• Prior Navy, MWR, or military experience is preferred.
• Documented experience in efficient management of personnel and resources for renovation/repair projects, preferably including MWR or other military non-appropriated fund operations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drafting accurately; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to appraise program elements, evaluate, and recommend improvements to achieve goals; adjust work operations to meet urgent or changing situations.
• This position requires travel up to 50% of the time within the CNRMA region or CNIC enterprise.
