Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains CPS compliance with special education laws and regulations, including the EGSP.
- Serves as a liaison between ISBE and CPS regarding special education matters.
- Collaborates with the Special Education and Multilingual departments.
- Provides training and technical assistance in special education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A law degree from an accredited university.
- Copies of transcripts required at time of application.
- A license to practice law in the state of Illinois or the ability to become licensed prior to starting employment.
- At least three years of experience in special education or related field.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of related current practice, philosophy, and law related to special education.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity for all students.
- Strategic and critical thinking skills, applicable to short, medium, and long-term priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to engage stakeholders through various methods and prepare relevant reports and correspondence.
- Effective communication skills, including writing and speaking clearly and concisely.
- Facilitation skills for meetings, presentations, and discussions.
- Record-keeping and report-preparation abilities.
- Interpersonal skills, including cooperation, courtesy, flexibility, and concern for representation.
- Effective work skills, such as conscientiousness, persistence, resourcefulness, productivity, and relationship-building.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of experience in special education or related field.
- Experience with large, complex urban school districts.
