Assistant Grocery Manager

About the role

As the Assistant Grocery Manager you will help customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service through managing and leading one of the busiest teams in our store. You will assist the Grocery Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit, responsible for ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Grocery team. You will effectively coordinate merchandising and sales through ongoing planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. You will assist in leading a team that brainstorms to deliver the finest quality of product, highest level of service, and the greatest experience your customers will receive. You will also assist in hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Grocery Team, unload and sort through store deliveries, and ensure the execution of all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines/regulations, validating that other Grocery team members are also aware of, and following, these procedures.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age
• 1–3 years of retail management experience
• Familiarity with natural foods and alternative diets preferred
• Dependable and reliable with the ability to work a flexible schedule that changes as the business changes; including nights, weekends and holidays
• Ability to walk up to 3 miles per 8 hours
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to take and give direction and participate in a team environment
• Outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with customers
• Proven leadership ability to build, motivate and maintain staff; working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals
• Strong focus on detail; analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong organization and planning skills; able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
• Ability to vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs. from 9” to 62” for up to 25 hours
• Ability to vertically/horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. from 5” to 34” for a distance up to 5 feet for up to 25 hours without mechanical assistance
• Ability to repetitively squat, kneel, or bend to access a point 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours
