About the Role

The Assistant Soccer Coach I supports the mission and vision of King’s Schools by coaching student athletes in Junior High and High School competition. This role focuses on guiding athletes toward athletic excellence and personal growth, both on and off the field, while mentoring them as Christian leaders. The coach will compete and lead in a Christ-honoring manner, using their gifts and talents to glorify God.

Responsibilities

  • Yearly Preparation:
    • Understand and teach the rules and regulations of soccer as outlined in the WIAA Handbook, Conference guidelines, and NFHS rule book.
    • Stay updated on rule changes and complete the required rules clinic before the season.
    • Attend coaching clinics, workshops, and research new techniques to enhance coaching methods.
    • Assist the head coach in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
  • Before the Season:
    • Assist the head coach in registering all participants and issuing equipment.
    • Meet with participants to discuss program rules and regulations, emphasizing the Athletic Code.
    • Attend organizational meetings with the head coach to plan for the upcoming season.
  • During the Season:
    • Conduct yourself in a Christ-like, ethical, and professional manner.
    • Assist in implementing the Athletic Core Covenants.
    • Maintain and supervise equipment and facilities, reporting any lost or damaged items to the head coach.
    • Supervise athletes and teams, ensuring regular attendance at practices and contests.
    • Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner, emphasizing safety and injury prevention.
    • Be knowledgeable of emergency procedures and the emergency action plan.
    • Promote good sportsmanship, citizenship, and ethical behavior.
    • Assist the head coach in evaluating the program, players, and overall progress.
    • Ensure the program provides a positive educational experience for all participants.
  • End of Season:
    • Assist in returning, storing, and inventorying school equipment.
    • Recommend athletes for awards and attend the athletic award night.
    • Suggest facility maintenance and improvements.
    • Recommend schedule improvements to the head coach.
    • Prepare reports as requested by the head coach and athletic director.
  • Out-of-Season:
    • Assume a supervisory role while adhering to WIAA rules (no sport-specific coaching allowed).
  • Conduct yourself in a manner that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith, and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).

Requirements

  • Christ-Centered:
    • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
    • A committed Christian dedicated to spiritual growth through prayer, fellowship, Bible study, and other spiritual practices.
    • Prayerfully seeks God’s will in life and ministry at CRISTA.
    • Engages in ministry activities, including prayer, spiritual practices, and leading devotionals.
    • Affirms, aligns with, and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
    • Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader in conduct and actions.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Previous coaching experience recommended.
  • Coaching certification through FinalForms.
  • Van Certification (if needed).
  • Ability to pass background checks, including the DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions (WAC 388-113v) and WA State Background Check.
  • Agreement with King’s Mission and Vision.
  • Hold a valid CPR/First Aid card and stay updated on athlete safety practices.
  • Meet or exceed WIAA coaching standards as published in the WIAA Handbook or King’s Schools Coaches Handbook.
  • Understand and align with King’s Schools’ philosophy and goals.
  • Knowledge of the information contained in the coach’s handbook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sport-specific coaching experience.

Pay

$1,500 - $3,500 stipend, dependent on experience.
