About the role
This position is a blended position involving performing both private utility locating services and assisting with geophysical field activities.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Geophysical and Geotechnical department staff during the setup and initiation of field exploration services.
- Review site plans, perform private utility locating services, and relay relevant information to project staff.
- Perform non-invasive utility locating and geophysical surveys from the ground surface using various geophysical techniques in support of underground utility location.
- Define survey objectives, follow survey design parameters, perform Conventional Utility Locating (CUL) methods along with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and effectively communicate field results to project managers.
- Incorporate results into the planning of Terracon’s subsurface exploration services.
- Provide assistance with field tasks including field reconnaissance, layout test borings, and assist with geophysical and geotechnical field activities as needed.
- Learn and train others in utility locating services in support of geophysical and geotechnical related projects.
Requirements
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.
- Participate in pre-task planning.
- Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- Perform utility locating surveys in support of various geotechnical, materials, and environmental projects.
- Perform site visits, field observations, and field data collection on assignments.
- Assist in geophysical data collection and tests to evaluate, plan, and permit projects.
- Collaborate with project managers and senior level geophysicist on subsurface site conditions for geotechnical and environmental projects.
- Assist and perform various field testing services for geophysical and geotechnical subsurface exploration.
- May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or 3 years of relevant field experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of utility locating or GPR experience.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
