About the role

EMBR is seeking an experienced, motivated, and customer-focused Assistant General Manager (AGM) to help lead our Somerville dispensary through an exciting period of growth and transition. This role is more than a traditional Assistant Manager position—it is an opportunity to help establish EMBR's culture, operational standards, and guest experience as we bring the Somerville location into the EMBR family.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership

    • Partner with the General Manager to oversee all daily dispensary operations and ensure efficient, compliant, and profitable store performance.
    • Assume full operational responsibility for the store in the General Manager's absence.
    • Support the successful transition of the Somerville dispensary into the EMBR brand by implementing company standards, SOPs, and operational best practices.
    • Ensure all company policies, security procedures, and operational standards are consistently followed.
    • Identify operational challenges and implement solutions that improve efficiency and the guest experience.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and compliant retail environment at all times.
  • Sales & Business Performance

    • Help drive sales performance through coaching, merchandising, promotional execution, and exceptional customer service.
    • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including sales, labor, average basket size, conversion, inventory variance, and customer satisfaction.
    • Assist with cash management, daily reconciliations, deposits, and financial accountability.
    • Partner with the General Manager to execute business initiatives that improve operational performance and profitability.
  • Compliance & Inventory Management

    • Ensure compliance with all Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) regulations, company SOPs, and applicable state and local laws.
    • Audit online menus to ensure accurate pricing, product availability, and product information.
    • Partner with the inventory team to maintain accurate stock levels and efficient fulfillment processes.
    • Ensure all compliance documentation and operational records are maintained accurately and on time.
  • Leadership & Team Development

    • Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and retention of exceptional team members.
    • Coach, mentor, and develop Leads and Budtenders through regular feedback, accountability, and performance conversations.
    • Aid in scheduling, attendance tracking, performance reviews, and workforce planning.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, recognition, and continuous improvement.
    • Help identify and develop future leaders within the organization through coaching and succession planning.
    • Address employee concerns professionally while partnering with the General Manager on performance management and corrective action when necessary.
  • Customer Experience

    • Lead by example in delivering an exceptional, education-focused guest experience.
    • Resolve customer concerns promptly, professionally, and with a solution-oriented mindset.
    • Continuously coach the team on product knowledge, hospitality, and customer engagement.
    • Champion EMBR's commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and memorable retail experience.
  • Brand Transition & Culture Leadership

    • Help establish EMBR's culture, values, and leadership expectations throughout the Somerville team.
    • Partner closely with the General Manager, Regional Leadership, and corporate support teams to implement new initiatives successfully.
    • Serve as a positive change leader by helping team members embrace new processes while maintaining high morale and engagement.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager or Regional Leadership.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Successfully complete all required background screenings, including Massachusetts LiveScan requirements.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of retail leadership experience required; cannabis retail management experience strongly preferred.
  • High-volume retail management experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cannabis products, retail operations, and Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission regulations.
  • Experience with Dutchie POS, METRC, Weedmaps, or comparable retail systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
