Assistant General Counsel, Product
About the role
Thomson Reuters is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Product to join our General Counsel’s Office. In this role, you will support Thomson Reuters’ Product, Technology, and Marketing teams by advising on legal, regulatory, and reputational risks across the product lifecycle, including new product and feature development, marketing initiatives, partnerships, and emerging areas of law.
Responsibilities
- Advise product and business partners: Counsel Product, Technology, and Marketing teams on legal issues arising across the product lifecycle, from concept through launch, for new products, features, and functionality across Thomson Reuters’ products and services.
- Identify and manage risk: Assess legal, regulatory, and reputational risks and provide practical, business-oriented guidance that supports informed decision-making.
- Support marketing and communications: Review and advise on marketing campaigns, product messaging, sales communications, marketing assets, and updates across Thomson Reuters’ digital properties.
- Enable strategic initiatives: Provide legal support for product partnerships, integrations, strategic alliances, and co-development arrangements.
- Build scalable legal resources: Create, update, and deliver training materials, playbooks, templates, and other legal resources for business partners.
Requirements
You're a fit for the role of Assistant General Counsel, Product if your background includes:
- Juris Doctor degree and admission to practice, or eligibility to practice, in Minnesota, Texas, or Ontario; active license in good standing.
- 6+ years of experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department advising on product counseling, consumer protection, technology transactions, or related matters.
- Familiarity with global advertising laws and regulations, artificial intelligence regulation, intellectual property law, and consumer protection laws.
- Ability to serve as a trusted, collaborative partner to Product, Technology, and Marketing teams, helping balance legal risk with business objectives and the long-term interests of Thomson Reuters.
- Strong process orientation, with the ability to build, improve, and scale internal processes, documentation, and systems.
- Sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, initiative, and creativity in solving complex legal and business problems.
- Ability to work effectively and inclusively as part of a diverse, cross-functional team.
- Experience with technical disciplines, product development, or managing attorneys is a plus.
Qualifications
Required:

This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
For any eligible US locations, the base compensation range for this role is $157,500 USD - $292,500 USD. For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $172,000 CAD - $222,000 CAD.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
