About the role

We are looking for an experienced and innovative credit attorney to join our product and regulatory counsel team as an Assistant General Counsel, reporting to the Director and Associate General Counsel, Derivatives, Banking, and IP at Robinhood.

The Robinhood Legal team's mission is to provide strategic, forward-looking, and comprehensive legal guidance across the entire company, enabling the safe and compliant expansion of our innovative financial offerings. The successful candidate will be a key member of the team responsible for guiding multi-functional teams from ideation through launch, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and shaping the future of our retail credit card and consumer banking initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to a wide range of complex legal requests and coordinate closely with your team and outside counsel to deliver practical, timely, and high-quality advice.
  • Identify and assess business and legal risks, and find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving product goals.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Advise on, review, and draft consumer agreements in support of new products.
  • Develop trusted relationships to facilitate a coordinated team approach to launching new products and features.
  • Be a business partner, and think like a proactive product owner, not just a legal advisor.
  • Pitch in on legal work across the team whenever needed.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school (or foreign equivalent)
  • Membership in at least 1 U.S. State Bar, with good standing
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience across a law firm, government agency, or a fast-paced technology, financial services, banking, lending, payments, or fintech company
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience with consumer lending products, including credit cards and applicable federal consumer financial protection laws such as the Truth in Lending Act, the Equal Opportunity Credit Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
  • Deep understanding of consumer banking products, including deposit accounts and applicable federal consumer financial protection laws such as the Expedited Funds Availability Act, the Truth in Savings Act, and the Electronic Fund Transfer Act
  • Experience working with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its rules and regulations
  • Advanced expertise with payments industry legal issues and applicable compliance requirements and regulations, including NACHA Rules, card network rules, Bank Secrecy Act / anti-money laundering rules, and state money transmission services regulation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate information effectively to non-legal audiences and drive cross-functional alignment
  • An execution-oriented mindset with the agility, drive, and creativity to deliver results
