What you'll do
- Serve as primary legal advisor to Warby Parker's product, technology, and brand teams, partnering from concept through launch on new product features and consumer-facing initiatives
- Review and advise on marketing and advertising campaigns, influencer partnerships, and social media campaigns, including compliance with FTC guidelines, state consumer protection laws, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and endorsement/testimonial requirements
- Provide intellectual property counseling, including trademark, brand protection, content licensing, and copyright matters
- Draft and maintain consumer-facing legal terms, including website and app terms of use and promotional terms
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, SaaS and technology agreements, licensing deals, partnerships, and collaboration agreements
- Advising on privacy and data practices related to marketing technology, ad tech, and consumer data, working closely with others in the Legal team on matters involving healthcare data
- Support new business initiatives and strategic partnerships that drive growth
- Monitor legal developments in advertising, consumer protection, privacy, and e-commerce that affect the business
- Develop and maintain templates, playbooks, and internal guidance documents to help business teams move quickly and compliantly
Who you are
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school and licensed to practice law in New York
- Backed by 7+ years of relevant experience in product counseling, marketing/advertising law, privacy law, and commercial transactions, preferably including in-house experience at a consumer-facing company, or a combination of training and experience that demonstrates equivalent expertise
- Strong working knowledge of FTC advertising and marketing guidelines, state consumer protection frameworks, and commercial contract structures
- Experience advising product and marketing teams in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to provide practical, business-forward guidance
- Highly organized with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across legal and business teams
Extra Credit
- Familiarity with HIPAA and other laws governing the privacy of health information
- Direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, or retail industry experience
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence and emerging technology legal issues
