About the role
Tishman Construction Corporation/AECOM Tishman is seeking an Assistant General Counsel in New York City, NY to support our exciting construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Works on legal matters for Tishman.
- Reviews, prepares and/or negotiates contracts and subcontracts.
- Identifies risks and prepares legal advice with input as to risk assessments and requests for approval to proceed with projects or pursuits.
- Provides counsel regarding collateral matters arising in connection with business transactions.
- Presents counsel regarding the interests and objectives of the company, to minimize risk of loss and/or liability.
- Manages external counsel where appropriate and necessary in judicial and administrative litigation and/or claims.
- Works with Human Resources, Analysts and Insurance departments to review all contracts, bids, and contract-related services pre and post contract performance.
- Leads negotiations between Tishman and its clients.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s plus at least 12 years of relevant construction legal experience, including at least 4 years of leadership experience.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school plus at least 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney supporting construction projects, including experience drafting and negotiating agreements and/or handling claims and litigation, or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
- Admission to the bar in the State of New York.
- Ability to work independently while functioning well in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least ten years of legal building construction experience.
- Experience with a larger General Contractor (GC) in the vertical construction market.
- Project experience to include high rise residential and/or hospitality.
- JD expertise in real estate, construction, etc.
- Experience/knowledge of insurance policies, coverages, and claims.
- Experience handling or overseeing litigation/dispute resolution proceedings.
- Ability to partner, collaborate and work well in a team environment.
- Dynamic and confident, flexible and proactive.
- Ability to be positive, influence others, represent the organization, region and management professionally and positively.
