Assistant Football Coach - MS

Location: Thunderbolt • Reports to: Head Coach, Athletic Director, Principal • Part-time, non-benefit-eligible position dependent on sports schedule.

Qualifications

• Previous successful coaching or playing experience or knowledge in the assigned sport
• Knowledge of the background in the assigned sport and basic rules of the activity, including specific safety concerns
• Ability to work effectively with other coaches, staff, and students
• IVP fingerprint clearance card through AZ Department of Public Safety
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Completion of the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course (or approved equivalent) within 45 days of hire
• Completion of the NFHS online course “Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know” within 45 days of hire
• Hold a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate, Arizona Coaching Certificate, or have completed NFHS Level I Certification (Fundamentals of Coaching and sport-specific course or teaching sport skills) within 45 days of hire

About the Role

To carry out the aims and objectives of the sports program as outlined by the head coach and school administration. Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to foster individual and team success while promoting moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, and self-confidence. The role significantly influences the community image of the school system, requiring a balance between competitive performance and the objectives of good sportsmanship, mental health, and athlete safety.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of and adherence to school district, state, and conference regulations
• Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and community
• Monitor student athletes’ academic progress through reports from the Athletic Office
• Complete and submit necessary injury reports to the Athletic Office
• Accountable for all equipment: inventory, issue, store, and recondition as arranged with the head coach
• Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games for cleanliness and damage
• Supervise locker rooms and other areas used by the team
• Remain present until the last student athlete leaves
• Hold scheduled sports events or practices and adhere to facility times
• Coordinate practice sites and times with the Athletic Office
• Assist in preparation and cleanup of playing areas for practices and contests
• Supervise practices, games, and team trips, ensuring participant safety
• Assist the head coach in carrying out responsibilities
• Attend clinics and use available resources to improve coaching skills
• Submit team roster to the Athletic Office a week before the first game
• Prepare and submit reports and information required by the Athletic Office
• Carry player emergency cards at all practices and games
• Supervise assigned athletes and assume control over all athletes in the program when necessary
