Assistant Fleet Manager

Responsibilities

• Set clear expectations for assigned drivers regarding safety, performance, and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
• Foster a safety-driven culture by monitoring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
• Track driver metrics such as on-time performance, fuel efficiency, hours of service (HOS), and compliance with routing and scheduling requirements.
• Maintain open lines of communication with drivers, explaining the "why" behind company policies and decisions to promote understanding and alignment.
• Quickly and effectively resolve driver issues, including routing, load assignments, and equipment concerns.
• Create a respectful, collaborative team atmosphere where drivers feel supported and empowered to make sound decisions.
• Create a sense of urgency within the team to meet delivery timelines, address customer concerns, and handle operational issues promptly.
• Monitor driver performance and provide documentation, coaching, or corrective action as necessary.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in transportation management, dispatching, or a similar leadership role in the logistics industry.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service (HOS), and safety requirements.
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other industry-specific tools.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage and motivate drivers.
• A proactive, solution-oriented mindset to navigate challenges in transportation operations.

Work Environment

• Located in an active industrial manufacturing and distribution center with moderate to high noise levels, temperature variations, and material handling equipment in operation.
• The role may require extended periods of standing or walking on concrete floors and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toed boots.
• The fast-paced environment involves time-sensitive and safety sensitive operations and may include various shift schedules to support production and distribution needs.
