About the role

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Directorate Accountant within the Financial Management Team. This role supports the accurate and timely provision of financial information, guidance, and business support to the Trust’s Clinical Boards. Responsibilities include monthly closedown, variance analysis, reporting, forecasting, and providing high-quality financial analysis to meet financial objectives. The role is based at Regent Point in Gosforth, with parking and easy access to public transport.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the (Senior) Directorate Accountant in delivering a high-quality financial management service.
  • Work closely with the Directorate Management Team to provide timely and accurate financial information and advice.
  • Produce budgets for specific areas of reporting responsibility.
  • Ensure financial controls are maintained within Corporate Governance guidelines.
  • Support the production of monthly management accounts for accurate monitoring and forecasting of the Trust’s financial position.

Requirements

Qualifications & Education

  • Essential:
    • A good level of education in a numerate subject.
    • NVQ level 5 or Association of Accounting Technician membership, or certificate level of a professional accountancy (CCAB) qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Desirable:
    • Further progress toward a CCAB qualification.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Essential:
    • Experience in the finance department of a complex organisation.
    • A good working knowledge of financial computer systems.
    • Knowledge of Management Accounting procedures and techniques, including variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Desirable:
    • Previous NHS finance experience.
    • Working knowledge of Oracle.
    • Staff supervision experience.

Skills & Abilities

  • Able to work autonomously, manage workload, and adapt priorities to achieve key tasks.
  • Able to communicate complex information to diverse audiences using various methods.
  • Advanced PC skills, particularly in financial systems and Microsoft Office.

Schedule

37.5 hours per week.
