ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, ZONE COORDINATION
NYCHA’s Office of Resident Economic Empowerment & Sustainability (REES), part of the Department of Resident Services, Partnerships and Initiatives (RSPI), develops and implements programs, policies, and collaborations to support residents’ economic opportunities, focusing on asset building, employment, advancement, adult education and training, and business development. NYCHA’s Zone Model leverages resources to expand economic opportunity for public housing residents through place-based service coordination, aiming to generate opportunities, provide a comprehensive economic empowerment platform, reduce service duplication, strengthen partnerships, and drive investment into public housing neighborhoods.
About the role
REES is seeking a dynamic Assistant Director, Zone Coordination, to serve as a key member of the REES Leadership Team. Reporting to the REES Director, this role involves managing the Zone Coordination team and ensuring Zone projects meet established outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Zone Coordination team, which includes two Senior Zone Coordinators and 14 Zone Coordinators.
- Ensure Zone projects are on target to reach established outcomes, supporting resident self-sufficiency and economic mobility.
- Support Senior Zone Coordinators with managing the REES Partner Application process to attract high-quality economic opportunity service providers, including workforce development, adult education & training, and financial literacy and asset building.
- Exercise independent judgement and initiative to strategically leverage local opportunities, develop strategies for working with local providers and stakeholders, and attract new resources to underserved communities.
- Implement and upgrade protocols, tools, and procedures to measure outcomes and strengthen the Zone Model, including documenting staff activities, developing resident self-sufficiency policies, partner data matches, and collaborating with the Senior Data Manager on data collection.
- Cultivate shared learning across Zone Coordinators, capture and implement best practices, and ensure learning is relevant to providers and stakeholders.
- Develop ongoing capacity-building opportunities for Zone Coordinators.
- Facilitate monthly REES metric meetings on recruitment, referral, enrollment, completion, and placement data, using metrics to audit activities and identify operational efficiencies.
- Coordinate with key NYCHA departments (Operations, Leased Housing, Resident Services Partnerships and Initiatives) to integrate the Zone Model into existing practices.
- Collaborate with Assistant Directors and REES leadership to support key initiatives and special projects.
- Identify staff needs and support professional development through relevant training and technical support.
- Represent REES at resident-focused, high-visibility events.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
Requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of full-time community liaison, community organization, or community relations experience, with at least two years in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, developing, evaluating, and/or administering a large community service program or activity.
- A four-year high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of full-time experience as described above, with at least two years in a broad administrative or policy-making capacity.
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above. Undergraduate education may substitute for community liaison experience (up to 4 years), and graduate education may substitute for up to 2 years of experience, but all candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of full-time administrative or policy-making experience.

Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in social work, public administration, community and economic development, public policy, education, business, or a related field.
- Five to seven years of professional experience in community organizing, planning, workforce development, financial literacy, resident business development, adult education, job training, community development, management consulting, and/or program evaluation in low-income communities.
- Proven supervisory experience leading successful teams, coordinating complex projects, developing systems, and applying best practices.
- Experience developing public-private partnerships and inter-agency collaborations.
- Exceptional project management, organizational, analytical, quantitative, and qualitative skills.
- Creative and strategic thinking with an entrepreneurial approach.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

$75,244.00 – $97,000.00
