About the role

The Assistant Director will lead the attraction technical/project management team in developing the technical approach for all major elements and providing oversight during execution with the vendor.

Responsibilities

  • Concept feasibility, scope of work development and review, vendor assessment and selection, vendor oversight, risk identification and mitigation, field installation strategy, oversight of field test and adjust and SAT.
  • Incorporate budget, schedule and creative constraints into all decisions.
  • Makes direct engineering contributions to projects as required relative to engineering, code and standards compliance, Universal Specification compliance, and technical systems achievement of creative and business goals.
  • Review/approve all Ride/Show scope of work and RFPs.
  • Reviews/develops the technical plans and progress for UC projects as assigned.
  • Enforces Universal's specifications, standards, and technical contracting methods.
  • Leads the project technical team in assessing and mitigating technical and schedule risk.
  • Leads the project team to achieve California DOSH sign off of new attractions.
  • Affords assistance with Universal Patent pursuit and defense.
  • Oversees ADA compliance for Shows and Rides.
  • Develops and executes innovations/inventions that provide increased accessibility.
  • Drives safety improvements across project.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations and internal standards; develops new safety technologies; ensures safety protocols reflect theme park best practices and cutting-edge ideas.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

Qualifications

  • 15 Years: Required Vendor Management experience with significant in-field installation related experience.
  • 5 Years: Required related experience. Theme Park specific experience, in such areas as Show Action Equipment (SAE) and/or ride systems, is highly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Proven track record of managing teams, including direct reports, & acting as in-house mentor.
  • Experience with compliance activities including for guest facing interactions.
