Assistant Safety Director

About the role

This role is crucial in maintaining and improving our occupational safety and health performance across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive safety policies and procedures for all construction projects
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement
  • Coordinate with the Corporate Safety Director to align site-specific safety plans with company-wide initiatives
  • Oversee the investigation of accidents and incidents, ensuring accurate reporting and implementation of preventative measures
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 1926 and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Training Manager to develop and lead safety training programs for Site Safety Supervisors and other employees
  • Travel extensively to visit client sites, providing updates on safety requirements
  • Conduct regular site visits to maintain a consistent safety culture

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction safety, with at least 6 years in a leadership role
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) certification required
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other safety standards applicable to heavy civil construction
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in safety management systems and data analysis
  • Valid state driver's license and ability to travel frequently to multiple project sites
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience and comfortable with client interface, communication and presentation
  • Experience and proven capabilities related to accident investigation, root cause analysis, etc.
  • Experienced and proven track record regarding assessing site safety programs and developing effective and measurable plans of redress where applicable

Required Certifications

  • OSHA 510 Certification
  • OSHA 500/502 Certification preferred
  • Competency Trainer certification for Fall Protection, Excavation, and Trenching
  • First Aid/CPR certification

Requirements

  • Arrive at work on time, as scheduled, consistently, reliably, & complete each shift
  • Follow all safety rules and standards for the company and for the site
  • Understand and follow instructions from the direct supervisor

Physical Profile Requirements

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 20 pounds
  • Some climbing and balancing
  • Some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
  • Significant fine finger and motor dexterity, and manual dexterity necessary to operate a standard desktop computer keyboard
  • Ability to transport necessary equipment and supplies and set up meetings
  • Current driver's license and ability to travel to various locations
