Assistant Director or Associate Director of Development - College of Natural Science & Mathematics
About the role
The University of Houston is seeking dynamic professionals to join the Division of Advancement & Alumni. This position supports the NSM and offers opportunities to contribute to strategic fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and long-term philanthropic growth. Successful candidates will serve diverse academic and programmatic areas, contributing to the University's Can't Stop Houston Centennial Campaign.
Responsibilities
- Manages a portfolio of major gifts donors and prospects in support of university-wide initiatives or for one or more assigned colleges or units.
- Possesses some knowledge and expertise regarding personal solicitation and fundraising in general, and at least a basic knowledge of planned giving.
- Manages a portfolio of prospects which are mostly at the level of $50,000 plus.
- Identifies, cultivates, and solicits prospects and stewards donors; works with faculty, staff, and volunteers as appropriate.
- Provides guidance to the college or unit on major gifts, other developments, and fundraising matters.
- If assigned to a college or unit, may be responsible for creating and implementing a development plan for components within the assigned college, including resource management.
- May administer other advancement activities, such as alumni relations, publications, special events, media relations, etc. for an assigned college or unit.
- Participates in University-wide development activities as needed.
Requirements
- Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
- Experience: Requires a minimum of 1 year of directly job-related experience for the Assistant Director of Development position, and a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience for the Associate Director of Development position. The department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience, and experience in lieu of education.
