Responsible administrative and supervisory work in a geographic or functional division of the Sheriff's Department.
Distinguishing Features of Work
An employee in this class supervises and coordinates the civil and criminal law enforcement activities of an assigned division of the Sheriff’s Department.
Duties include the supervision of staff assigned to the patrol, process serving, prisoner transportation, court security, and criminal investigation sections and compliance with statutes, ordinances and department rules.
Supervision is also exercised over assigned support staff.
The work is performed under the general direction of the Undersheriff and/or Sheriff.

Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminology, business administration, public administration, or a related field;
AND
Four (4) years of full-time paid supervisory or lead worker experience in a law enforcement agency. - Possession of a valid Minnesota Peace Officer’s License.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
Experience & Training
Experience & Training Rating: 40% Points will be awarded for job-related experience and education exceeding the minimum qualifications. Only experience occurring during the ten most recent years will be used in determining this rating. Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history.
Selection Process
All candidates meeting minimum qualifications/passing written examination will be scheduled for the oral exam on January 27 or 28. If three or fewer applicants qualify for the oral exam, it will be waived.
