About the role

The Assistant Director of Sales at Hard Rock Hotel San Diego plays a crucial role in leading a high-energy, music-drenched workplace where team camaraderie and creativity thrive. Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director of Sales to develop and execute strategic sales plans that achieve and exceed revenue goals.

  • Lead from the front, actively solicit, negotiate, and close high-value group, convention, corporate, and special-event business.

  • Leverage deep knowledge of the downtown San Diego market, competitive landscape, major demand generators, and city-wide convention business to identify opportunities and position the hotel to win.

  • Build and strengthen relationships with corporate clients, meeting planners, convention organizers, travel partners, and key industry contacts.

  • Manage and grow key accounts while developing new business opportunities across corporate, group, meetings, and leisure segments.

  • Support complex group contracts, negotiations, and high-value opportunities from initial lead through close.

  • Conduct compelling client presentations, site inspections, sales calls, networking events, and industry appointments that showcase the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego experience.

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Sales Managers and Coordinators, setting clear expectations and holding the team accountable for results.

  • Monitor team performance, pipeline activity, conversion, pace, production, and revenue results to identify opportunities and drive accountability.

  • Ensure client expectations and event requirements are communicated accurately and effectively throughout the organization.

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, industry developments, and emerging business opportunities to keep the hotel ahead of the competition.

  • Analyze sales reports and performance metrics to refine strategies, maximize revenue, and identify opportunities for growth.

  • Aid in sales forecasts, budgets, reporting, and strategic business planning.

  • Maintain accurate account, activity, pipeline, and revenue information within hotel sales systems.

  • Represent Hard Rock Hotel San Diego with confidence, energy, professionalism, and pride at every client interaction.

Requirements

  • 4–6+ years of hotel sales or hospitality experience, with demonstrated success in a leadership capacity.

  • Proven experience selling high-volume group business, conventions, city-wide events, and/or large-scale meetings.

  • Competitive, driven sales leader with strong commercial instincts and disciplined revenue strategy.

  • Exceptional negotiator, closer, influencer, and relationship builder.

  • Financially savvy and understands how sales decisions impact occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, profitability, and overall hotel performance.

  • Confident and presentable, able to engage senior-level clients, meeting planners, corporate partners, and industry leaders.

  • Organized, proactive, resilient, and solutions-focused communicator.

  • Passionate for 5-star service and understands that winning the business is only the beginning, the experience we deliver is what earns the next piece of business.

  • Comfortable using hotel sales systems, Microsoft Office, and reporting tools.

  • Flexible, can-do attitude willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and attend industry events as business needs require.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hotel Management, Marketing, or related field.

  • Hotel Sales Certification or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.

  • Knowledge of hotel operations and services.
