About the role
Oversees multiple functional areas within Food & Child Nutrition Services. Assists the Director of Cafeteria Operations to lead team members to provide strategic alignment of central production and training processes with designated department and district objectives and overall district strategy. This position is under the supervision of the Director of Cafeteria Operations and works closely with other department leadership to proactively provide strategic support.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Central Kitchen operations by directly supervising Central Kitchen Manager and Catering Manager and indirectly supervising 30+ staff that prepare, deliver and serve meals to Dallas ISD locations
- Continuously audit and assess all vending machines, colleges, construction schools, mobile dining solutions, D'Cafe at 9400 and emergency meal sites for quality, customer satisfaction and efficiency
- Collaborate with FCNS Professional Development Manager to ensure appropriate personnel training is provided to supervisory staff
- Maintain and manage the schedule for mobile dining solutions and ensure food truck is inspected and maintained according to local health department standards
- Work with Operations on all current and future Dallas ISD construction projects
- Monitor staffing and labor costs for Central Kitchen production, catering, mobile and retail operations
- Aid in developing and implementing plans and goals for the catering department
- Prepare reports requiring technical precision, accuracy, readability and editorial correctness
- Represent the Director of Cafeteria Operations at meetings and events, and oversee operations in the absence of Director
- Make well thought out and data driven recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the department
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Nutrition, Institution Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management or directly related field
- Eight years supervisory experience in a multi-unit organization, background in school food service strongly preferred
Qualifications
- Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state sanitation regulations
- Demonstrated coaching, counseling and conflict resolution skills
- Computer skills and working knowledge of training software, CMS and other related software used by the department
- Proven ability to present a positive image for the district, maintain professional demeanor, provide excellent customer service and use good judgement in making decisions
- Ability to safeguard sensitive and confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure
- Organize and coordinate multiple tasks and to work under time pressure to meet deadlines
- Work independently at times with limited direction and exercise good judgement
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
