About the role
Sumter Health & Rehabilitation is seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON).
Responsibilities
- Aid the Director of Nursing with the daily operation and management of the nursing department.
- Provide clinical leadership and support to Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
- Monitor resident care and help ensure high standards of clinical quality.
- Conduct clinical rounds and assist with resident assessments and changes in condition.
- Coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff.
- Absorb nursing staff orientation, education, and competency development.
- Support infection prevention, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacy, therapy, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate resident care.
- Absorb admissions, care planning, and clinical operations.
- Assist with survey readiness and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Identify opportunities to improve resident outcomes and nursing department performance.
- Foster a positive, professional, and accountable nursing culture.
- Take on nursing leadership responsibilities in the Director of Nursing's absence as needed.
Qualifications
- Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing – REQUIRED.
- CPR/BLS certification.
- Previous nursing experience required.
- Nursing leadership experience as an ADON, Unit Manager, Nursing Supervisor, Staff Development Coordinator, Charge Nurse, or similar role preferred.
- Skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, post-acute care, or geriatric nursing experience strongly preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing skilled nursing and long-term care.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to effectively coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff.
- Working knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR).
