Responsibilities

Assist in the management, oversight, and evaluation of nursing and direct care services including:

• Developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures
• Overseeing, evaluating, and participating in recruitment, training, and continuing education programs for nursing and direct care staff
• Supervising Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric and other nursing and direct care staff
• Ensuring compliance with established standards of nursing care in accordance with State, federal, and accreditation agency requirements

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• License and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and
• 3 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, substance use disorder, or developmental disabilities, or individuals in a medical-surgical or long-term care setting.
• 1 year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.
• Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

OR Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Mental Hygiene Nursing Program Coordinator eligible list.

OR Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
