About the role

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is seeking an Assistant Director of Human Resources to join their team. This is an exempt, full-time, at-will position.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the internal bid and promotional process, including developing and updating job bids and descriptions, posting positions, conducting interviews, and finalizing candidate selection.
  • Managing the external hiring process, including recruitment efforts, developing job advertisements, conducting interviews, finalizing selection, and onboarding.
  • Implementing and evaluating human resources policies and procedures.
  • Advising department heads and other officials on human resources and payroll policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Developing and administering comprehensive human resources programs.
  • Providing training to fellow employees regarding human resources policy and procedures.
  • Assisting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator with all ADA compliance matters.
  • Implementing and monitoring all MSO incentive programs.
  • Managing the state retirement process for current and former employees.
  • Assisting with the employee evaluation process.
  • Acting as the Director in the Director of Human Resources' absence.
  • Working with the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator to recruit, hire, and retain qualified employees, supporting workforce stability and organizational staffing goals.
  • Performing other human resource duties as required by the Director of Human Resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, and five (5) plus years of demonstrated experience in all areas of human resources with particular strength in employee relations and recruitment.
  • Two (2) years of management experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment and labor laws, benefits, and compensation administration.
  • Exceptional phone etiquette and active listening skills.
  • Strong customer service, conflict resolution, and diplomacy skills, able to solve problems and de-escalate situations in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and promote a positive, cohesive team culture that encourages collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Able to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Prioritize following up clearly and promptly with staff and management.
  • Must maintain comprehensive and cohesive records.
  • Independent work in a fast-paced environment, handling a large volume of work, and paying close attention to detail.
  • Strong oral, written, organizational, and time management skills.

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to attend training sessions and other meetings outside of regular working hours.
  • Pass a criminal background check.

Benefits

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office offers a starting annual salary range of $117,000.00 to $117,486.10 plus additional benefits.

Starting annual salary: $117,000.00 to $117,486.10

Schedule

Hours of work are 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday, subject to change based on the discretion of management.
