About the Role
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of People, Culture, and Talent, and the HR Director, the Assistant HR Director provides leadership and support for the Human Resources Department, ensuring consistent service delivery, clear execution of workflows, and effective support to schools and district leadership. This role engages in the HR Department's daily operation to support complex employee relations matters, internal coordination, and department consistency.

Responsibilities
- HR Department Leadership & Oversight
- Assists the HR Director in day-to-day HR operations
- Ensures consistent application of HR processes, workflows, and service standards
- Monitors workload distribution and adjusts support as needed
- Provides coaching and direction to HR team members and managers, as assigned
- Employee Relations & Escalation Support
- Leads or supports complex and escalated employee relations matters
- Handles employee relations issues involving senior leaders (above principal/department level), as assigned
- Ensures consistency in corrective action, investigations, and separation decisions
- Partners with district administration on high-risk or sensitive cases, as assigned
- Supports escalation review when legal, political, or reputational sensitivity may be present, as assigned
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Ensures effective coordination between department members and roles
- Resolves ownership or workflow gaps across the HR team
- Supports alignment with legal, risk management, and Title IX functions
- Helps ensure internal handoffs are clear and work does not stall or become duplicated
- Operational Execution & Process Improvement
- Ensures HR workflows are followed consistently across the district
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, systems, and service delivery
- Supports implementation of HR systems, tools, and process improvements
- Maintains visibility into operational bottlenecks and addresses them proactively
- Supports implementation of practical role clarity, workflow consistency, and process discipline
- Leadership Support
- Provides guidance and support to principals, supervisors, and district leadership as needed
- Supports the HR Director in implementing strategic initiatives
- Serves as a point of escalation when additional leadership involvement is needed
- Performs other duties as assigned

Scope of Responsibility
- Directly supervises department members/teams, as assigned
- Assists in overseeing the execution of HR services across approximately 3,000+ employees
- Supports district-wide consistency in HR practices, workflows, and decision-making
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Educational Leadership/Administration/Legal or an HR-related field required
- School district experience preferred

Clearances
Candidate must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal background check.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Physical Demands: Primarily sedentary office environment; frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms; ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- Travel: Regular travel to various school buildings and district sites may be required.
- Mental Demands: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress; ability to handle high-volume, complex legal and personnel matters with strict confidentiality.
Pay
Salary Range: $114,561 - $161,000
Schedule
8 hours per day / 242 days per year
