About the Role

Support the Director of Engineering overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Engineering Department. The Assistant Director of Engineering assists in all aspects of hotel and building maintenance including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, HVAC refrigeration, interior, paint and decorating, and respond to inquiries and problems in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner to achieve maximum customer satisfaction while complying with all Four Seasons’ policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, disciplining, and planning of activities of maintenance department staff.
  • Assist in developing and updating comprehensive departmental policies and manuals.
  • Ensure proper execution of work order/request system and that items are followed up on when necessary.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchase and work orders and liaise effectively with the Director of Purchasing.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules, policies and rules to ensure an efficient department.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other employees, providing instruction and encouragement as needed.
  • Assist in ensuring that effective preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Assist in planning and implementing procedures, systems and controls to ensure an efficient maintenance department.
  • Provide short- and long-term strategic direction for the facility in conjunction with all operational needs of the individual departments.
  • Directly supervise staff in carrying out work schedules as well as spot checking to verify quality and employee performance.
  • Ensure timely completion of all assigned responsibilities by shift Engineers and Engineering Managers.
  • Maintain logs on movement of stock items and tools.
  • Maintain par stocks and the distribution of items.
  • Handle the purchasing of equipment replacement parts and repairs, including contacting vendors for the best prices, writing purchase orders, receiving goods, and completing projects.
  • Ensure that all meter readings on gas, electricity, water and domestic steam and water are taken daily and reviewed for consumption.
  • Assist in compiling a monthly consumption report on gas, electricity, water and domestic steam and water.
  • Set-up fire line safety system, valve locations and other emergency procedures that involve the department.
  • Ensure effective communication and good relations between the maintenance department and other departments in the Hotel and Residence.
  • Prepare and follow through on any projects as outlined by the Director of Engineering.
  • Assume the duties of the Director of Engineering in his/her absence.
  • Support the energy conservation program allowing the hotel to meet its annual budget targets.
  • Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.
  • Ensure a clean, neat, and organized work area.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent experience.
  • Trade school in mechanics, refrigeration, etc.
  • Two to five years of employment in a related leadership position with Four Seasons or another organization.
  • Working technical knowledge of general building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to operate computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of blueprints, wiring diagrams, and hydraulics.
  • A sincere willingness to provide service to residents, guests, and peers.
  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to function well under pressure, set priorities, and adjust to changing conditions.
  • High work ethic, with a sense of responsibility for the role filled within our team.
  • Flexible schedule, ability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must be fluent in English and possess legal work authorization in the United States.

The hospitality business functions seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, and scheduled days and times may vary based on need.
