Assistant Director of Employee Relations
About the role
Join the HR leadership team of a large, highly regulated organization supporting more than 5,500 employees across multiple operational locations. Lead a team of People Business Partners responsible for employee relations, investigations, performance management, and leadership coaching. Partner closely with executive leadership, operational leaders, legal counsel, and HR peers to drive consistent people practices across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategy for employee relations, performance management, succession planning, and talent calibration while helping leaders make sound people decisions.
- Identify trends across employee relations activity, develop proactive solutions, and implement initiatives that improve leadership effectiveness while reducing organizational risk.
- Partner with legal counsel and business leaders to ensure compliance with employment laws, company policies, and applicable labor agreements.
- Build scalable employee relations programs, leadership training, and performance management processes that support long-term organizational success.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of progressive Human Resources experience with a strong focus on employee relations, investigations, performance management, and leadership coaching.
- Previous leadership experience managing HR professionals, Employee Relations teams, HR Business Partners, or similar functions.
- Demonstrated success handling complex workplace investigations, grievance resolution, corrective action, performance issues, and executive-level coaching.
- Experience supporting organizations within highly regulated, multi-site, unionized, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, healthcare, utilities, or other operationally complex environments is highly preferred.
- Experience leading performance review cycles, talent calibration, succession planning, and enterprise talent initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, HR systems, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, along with excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
