Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for data visualization, digital scholarship, and creative technologies offerings within the USF Libraries.
- Contribute to the strategic planning, assessment, and continuous improvement of visualization, digital scholarship, and creative technologies initiatives.
- Actively engage with faculty, researchers, and students to build collaboration and promote the Libraries’ data visualization, digital scholarship, and creative technologies library offerings.
- Collaborate with USF Libraries colleagues across the three USF campuses on programming, outreach, and support for faculty and student research.
- Monitor emerging trends in data visualization, creative technologies, and digital scholarship to inform service development.
- Provide oversight for the USF St. Petersburg Student Technology Center (STC) and Makerspace and assist with STC education, programming, and events.
- Provide individual and small group consultations, workshops, and instruction in information, resource, and software use, and support and collaborate with those who seek to share data in visually compelling ways and to communicate using data.
- Actively participate and demonstrate leadership in professional responsibilities that serve the USF Libraries, University, profession, and community.
- Develop a focused program of high-quality research and/or creative accomplishments required for promotion
- Directly supervise the Coordinator, Library Operations for the Student Technology Center and the Digital Scholarship Librarian.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science earned by the appointment date OR terminal degree (MFA, PhD, EdD, or similar) in a relevant discipline
- Required Qualifications: Demonstrated procifiency with one or more data visualization tools/programming languages (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Illustrator, R, Python, D3.js); demonstrated facility and experience in at least one of the following areas: GIS, geospatial visualization, or alternative or collaborative mapping; The transformation of datasets into charts, dashboards, infographics, and interactive visualizations; Engagement with media and maker technologies to support the physicalization of data; 2–3 years of relevant experience in academic libraries, research environments, or related settings
Qualifications
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience providing data visualization and/or digital scholarship workshops and instruction; Familiarity with data management and curation practices; Knowledge of accessibility principles for visual design; Experience supervising and empowering technology and information professionals; Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines and organizational units
