Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness
About the role
The Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness is responsible for managing the Viking Wellness Program, Viking Venture, and supporting the Melvyn and Vonda Reed Riley Wellness Center, Aquatics/Swimming Pool, and Outdoor Recreation Field. This position collaborates with Academic Affairs to ensure proper maintenance of the pool and Wellness Center. The successful candidate will oversee student interns, work-study and student employees, and develop and implement programs such as intramural sports, club sports, esports, and special events.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Viking Wellness Program, including fitness and wellness programs and events for students, faculty, and staff.
- Oversee Viking Venture, which includes off-campus programming initiatives like team-building exercises and small group interactions.
- Support the Melvyn and Vonda Reed Riley Wellness Center, Aquatics/Swimming Pool, and Outdoor Recreation Field.
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs to maintain proper maintenance of the pool and Wellness Center.
- Oversee student interns, work-study, and student employees.
- Develop and implement programs such as intramural sports, club sports, esports, and special events.
- Represent the department on university-wide committees.
- Work 40 hours per week, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Requirements
- Possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in exercise science, kinesiology, sport management, health education, health promotion, or related field with at least one year of experience.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, dependability, and self-motivation. They should have extensive knowledge in managing an aquatic program, organizing information, events, and resources, and experience managing a collegiate fitness and/or wellness program. Additionally, they should have experience presenting fitness and wellness education and information to students, identifying potential risk hazards, providing training to Peer Wellness Ambassadors, and developing, implementing, and supervising programs in areas such as group exercise, personal training, special programs, and management of wellness center.
Skills
- Effective organization and coordination of information and resources.
- Ability to identify potential risk hazards and provide training to Peer Wellness Ambassadors.
- Experience teaching, training, and assessing group exercise classes, instructors, and personal trainers/health educators.
- Knowledge of sports rules, equipment, and sports officiating experience.
- Experience planning, organizing, and evaluating programs and activities.
- Ability to negotiate contracts, supervise students and employees, and affirmatively model effective leadership, good moral character, and ethics.
- Skilled with computer usage and knowledge of technological trends for advancing Student Affairs operations.
