Assistant Director of Admissions, Law School
This position is an integral part of the Admissions Office team, reporting to the Director of Admissions. The Assistant Director of Admissions plays a key role in implementing programs, counseling, and communication for the Admissions Office, including prospective student counseling, application review, and coordination of special programs.
Responsibilities
- Prospective Student Counseling (30%)
- Counsel prospective students on admissions and financial aid processes both in person (on and off campus) and virtually.
- Showcase the Law School’s strengths to prospective students.
- Provide timely, enthusiastic responses to prospective student inquiries.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Team and other Law School offices to ensure consistent communication.
- Application Review (30%)
- Evaluate at least 750 applications per year and make admission recommendations in partnership with the Admissions team.
- Special Programs (20%)
- Oversee the Pre-Law mentor program, including collaboration with UMN Pre-Law Advising Services and training student ambassadors.
- Manage the Minnesota Pre-Law Scholars LSAT preparation program for approximately 30 students annually.
- Engage with and counsel UMN undergraduate students in the Law minor.
- Coordinate outreach to Pre-Law advisors and meet with Pre-Law groups in person and virtually.
- Conduct research and analysis on admissions-related topics as directed.
- Prospective and Admitted Student Engagement (20%)
- Foster relationships between admitted applicants and faculty, staff, alumni, and current students.
- Edit and provide content for multimedia recruiting tools, including the admitted student website and social media.
- Develop tools to increase the Admissions Office’s social media presence.
- Collaborate with Law Communications to maintain and update print, digital, and web content.
- Generate and execute ideas to attract and recruit prospective applicants.
- Utilize admissions technology to ensure accurate data entry and communication.

Requirements
- BA/BS degree plus at least four years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree plus two years of relevant experience.
- Experience working in higher education admissions or student services, preferably with graduate or professional students.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications; ability to quickly learn new technology and systems.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proven ability to take initiative and solve problems independently.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to travel in and out of state (typically in the fall).
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- J.D. degree or a minimum of two years’ relevant experience in higher education administration, admissions, or marketing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student recruitment, education advocacy, or college counseling.
- Knowledge of Unite database, Qualtrics, or graphic design software (e.g., Adobe, InDesign, Photoshop).
About the Department
The Admissions Office provides top-notch customer service to approximately 3,000 J.D. program applicants annually. In addition to processing applications, the office participates in 70+ off-campus recruiting fairs nationwide and hosts around 25 on-campus and virtual events each year.
Pay
Salary range: $60,000–$75,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Initial pay may not reach the maximum of the range, reflecting individual credentials and experience while maintaining equity.
