Assistant Director Nursing (RN)

About the role

As Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), you will partner closely with the Director of Nursing to implement and direct all nursing services. This role interfaces with medical staff, administration, nursing staff, and other departments to achieve the hospital’s goals and objectives. You will collaborate on planning, organizing, and directing the delivery of quality general and psychiatric nursing care consistent with the facility’s policies and regulatory requirements. Duties include staffing, training and development, policy and procedure revision, performance standards, and communication on nursing issues to medical staff, department directors, and administration. You will participate in departmental and team meetings to discuss patient care and develop treatment plans, ensure compliance with state, federal, and regulatory agencies, prepare monthly reports, and attend quality, safety, and performance improvement meetings. You will supervise the nursing supervisory team, model excellent customer service, and hold all nursing staff to this standard. You will partner with the DON to review job assignments and staff utilization to ensure safe, high-quality care, and work to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction with treatment. You will also collaborate with the DON and People Services on staff recruitment and retention.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in nursing required; Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse license as required by state regulations
  • Previous experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, and psychiatric patients across the lifespan preferred
  • Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • CPR certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact
  • De-escalation certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
