About the Role
The Assistant Director of the Military Affiliated Student Center (MASC) supports the Director in advancing Weber State University’s commitment to military-affiliated and veteran students. This position coordinates student support services, certifications, programming, and daily operations across the Ogden Campus, Davis Campus, and Hill Air Force Base locations. The Assistant Director contributes to outreach, enrollment, and retention efforts, and assists with the administration of tuition assistance and veterans’ education benefits for active-duty service members, veterans, dependents, and other military-connected students.
In collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director helps maintain strategic partnerships with Hill Air Force Base and supports the implementation of the university’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Hill Education Office. The role also assists with the coordination of the federally funded TRIO Veterans Upward Bound program, including outreach, event planning, and compliance support.
The Assistant Director builds and strengthens collaborative relationships with key personnel in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Education, and veteran service organizations (VSO) across Utah to enhance support services and advocacy for military-affiliated students. This position serves as a School Certifying Official (SCO), ensuring accurate and timely processing of VA education benefits and tuition assistance.
The Assistant Director supervises student employees and/or part-time staff, contributes to departmental planning and assessment, and represents the center in university and community settings. This role manages compliance with federal and state military and Veterans Affairs regulations and tuition assistance programs, oversees the certification process for G.I. Bill and veterans tuition assistance, and assists in the preparation and administration of department budgets.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate student support services and certifications for military-affiliated students.
- Assist with the administration of tuition assistance and veterans’ education benefits.
- Maintain strategic partnerships with Hill Air Force Base and support the university’s MOU with the Hill Education Office.
- Coordinate the federally funded TRIO Veterans Upward Bound program, including outreach, event planning, and compliance support.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Education, and veteran service organizations.
- Serve as a School Certifying Official (SCO) to ensure accurate and timely processing of VA education benefits and tuition assistance.
- Supervise student employees and/or part-time staff.
- Contribute to departmental planning, assessment, and daily operations.
- Manage compliance with federal and state military and Veterans Affairs regulations.

- Serve on committees at the division, institutional, regional, and state levels.
- Participate in state and national professional organizations and regular professional development.
Requirements
- Master’s degree.
- Three years of full-time experience working in higher education, such as a registrar’s office, academic advising, Military Affiliated or Veterans Services Office, Veterans Upward Bound or TRIO program, student support services, admissions, financial aid/tuition assistance, or related area.
- One or more years of direct supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with military-affiliated student support services, grant programs, or tuition assistance programs.
- Experience building strategic initiatives, outreach efforts, and collaborative partnerships.
- Technical fluency, including experience using a Student Information System such as Ellucian Banner, reporting tools, and a degree audit tool like Ellucian DegreeWorks (CatTracks).
- Demonstrated understanding of federal and state Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense policies and procedures.
- Experience working with first-generation, low-income, physically disabled, or other special populations.
- Demonstrated commitment to educational access and student success.
- Spanish-language proficiency or fluency.

Pay
The annual salary for this position starts at $50,000 and may increase based on candidate qualifications.
Schedule
- 40 hours per week.
- 12 months per year.
- Exempt under FLSA.
