Assistant Director, International Employee & Scholar Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates day-to-day case management and operations for H-1B, TN, and E-3 petitions.
  • Intake, case assignment, timeline tracking, complex case analysis, petition preparation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Congnitional review and assistance with I-140 petitions for Director approval.
  • Partners with hiring units, HR, payroll, General Counsel, outside counsel, and other campus stakeholders to resolve eligibility, documentation, timing, outsourcing and compliance issues.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and audit-ready immigration petition filings by developing Standards of Practice (SOPs), templates, checklists, workflows, internal controls, and quality assurance processes.
  • Monitors regulatory and policy updates and recommends process improvements, and risk mitigation.
  • Provides backup subject-matter support related to J-1, O-1 regulations, and employment-based permanent residency pathways as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the work assigned.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence, as required by federal regulations.
  • 3 years experience interpreting complex regulatory requirements, providing compliance consultation and advising, and preparing employment-based immigration petitions with USCIS, including H-1B and employment-based permanent residency-related filings.
  • Strong workflow coordination skills in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and explain complex requirements clearly.
  • Independent work style and experience leading work, assigning and reviewing work for quality and compliance.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex organizations with decentralized stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing and filing PERM Labor Certifications.
  • Experience in the analysis and/or preparation of merit-based I-140's, such as EB-1 Outstanding Professor/Researcher or National Interest Waiver petitions.
  • Experience developing SOPs, templates, internal controls, or audit-ready documentation practices.
  • Experience using case management systems or structured workflow tracking to manage volume and service standards.
  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
  • Detail oriented with superior multitasking abilities.
