About the Role

The Assistant Director, Information Systems provides operational leadership and subject matter expertise for Epic Revenue Cycle Professional Billing (PB) applications and related analytics and reporting solutions in support of the University of Chicago Physicians Group (UCPG). This role bridges senior technical staff and departmental leadership, supporting strategic initiatives while maintaining direct involvement in system configuration, workflow design, analytics, and issue resolution.

The Assistant Director leads cross-functional teams in developing and enhancing systems, solving complex problems, and anticipating evolving business requirements to design and implement process improvements, systems alternatives, or enhancements. This position oversees complex projects, mentors senior analysts, defines application standards and best practices, and ensures reliable system performance, data integrity, and alignment with operational and business needs. The role partners closely with clinical, revenue cycle, and IT leadership to drive optimization, scalability, and continuous improvement of professional billing systems and processes.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a senior subject matter expert for Epic Resolute Professional Billing, including reporting, extracts, charge router, work queues, security, and workflow configuration.
• Provides oversight and guidance for the design, build, testing, and implementation of Epic PB enhancements and optimizations.
• Ensures system stability, data accuracy, security, and availability across PB applications, reporting platforms, and analytics solutions.
• Leads troubleshooting efforts for complex, high-impact issues and coordinates resolution across technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Provides day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and work direction for senior and mid-level analysts.
• Assists the Director with staffing needs, onboarding, training plans, knowledge transfer, and performance feedback.
• Promotes standard methodologies, documentation practices, and quality controls across the team.
• Serves as an escalation point for analysts and business partners.
• Leads multiple concurrent, cross-functional initiatives from intake through delivery with minimal supervision.
• Supports project planning, scope definition, timelines, and risk mitigation in partnership with the Director.
• Coordinates system upgrades, enhancements, testing cycles, and go-live activities.
• Translates business requirements into technical solutions that improve operational efficiency and user experience.
• Acts as a liaison between IT and operational leaders to evaluate needs, recommend solutions, and align technology with business priorities.
• Participates in governance, prioritization discussions, and strategic planning activities related to revenue cycle systems.
• Communicates status, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Supports development and optimization of reporting, dashboards, and analytical solutions using enterprise data sources.
• Identifies opportunities to improve workflows, reduce manual effort, and enhance data-driven decision-making.
• Contributes to long-term roadmap development for Epic PB and associated systems.
• Leads business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analyses.
• Solves unique and complex problems relating to computer equipment capacity, limitations, and operation time.
• Utilizes expertise and a thorough understanding of business systems and industry requirements to translate business and user needs into system requirement specifications.
• Performs other related work as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
• Minimum of 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Qualifications

• Preferred Education: Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional IT experience, with at least 5 years of direct Epic Resolute Professional Billing (PB) experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex IT or revenue cycle initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Background mentoring or leading technical teams in a healthcare or physician practice environment.
• Certifications: Epic certifications in Resolute Professional Billing (must be obtained within a defined timeframe if not already certified).
• Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Proficient with data warehousing, BI tools such as Power BI, or healthcare analytics platforms.
  • Advanced Epic PB expertise.
  • Strong understanding of revenue cycle operations, billing workflows, and reporting needs.

Pay

$100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year.
