Assistant Director, Human Resources Communications

About the role

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking an Assistant Director, Human Resources Communications to join the Integrated Internal Communications team. The position will support the Division of Human Resources through comprehensive integrated communications strategy, audience engagement, and content creation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute a comprehensive integrated communications strategy for the Division of Human Resources.
  • Identify the audience and implement various communication strategies and determine the frequency of communication and mediums to be used for optimal internal and external communication.
  • Provide strategic and creative guidance to HR leadership and functional teams to ensure that divisional efforts align and support HR's goals and initiatives, as well as the CSU's mission.
  • Serve as lead HR contact for new CSU Connect/Workvivo intranet site.
  • Develop and distribute communications that explain or convey CSU policies or positions on issues to internal audiences through written communications and email/online/social media/intranet platforms.
  • Partner with leadership and functional teams, including Labor Relations, Collective Bargaining, and Title IX/Civil Rights teams on content and messaging.
  • Create, write, edit content; conceive, design and produce SWHR emails, web content and messaging; and oversee the development of brochures, flyers, posters, and photography that enhances awareness and promotes internal communications initiatives.
  • Manage the use of social, electronic media and virtual event platforms for delivering integrated messages on HR-related communications to reach broad audiences.
  • Foster partnerships and collaboration throughout SWHR and the Chancellor's Office to result in effective employer communications.
  • Oversee the work of the Editorial Content Manager in producing the Chancellor’s Office internal newsletter.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
  • Minimum of five years related experience.
  • Significant communications management experience with proven track record.
  • Fluency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with employee intranet platforms.
  • Strong writing, editing, research, and proofreading, including ability to present concepts verbally.
  • Leadership skills for directing and overseeing projects.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including the ability to adapt to changing information and needs, coordinate multiple assignments, establish priorities and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Able to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population.
  • Ability to accurately translate multifaceted technical information into common ordinary terms.
  • Confident communicator and presenter.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media.
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management.
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles and methodologies.
  • Experience with large-scale organizational change efforts.
  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization.
