About the role

The Assistant Director of Foundation Relations at Boston University supports the University in securing funding from private philanthropic foundations. The position focuses on building and maintaining relationships with foundation prospects, particularly those aligned with specific colleges, schools, and initiatives on the Charles River Campus (CRC).

Responsibilities

  • Respond to foundation Request for Proposals (RFPs) and other funding opportunities as assigned.
  • Identify and engage foundation prospects, formulate strategies for engagement, and prepare LOIs, proposals, and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the CRC to maximize fundraising efforts.
  • Manage a portfolio of foundation prospects and relationships, including initiating, designing, and executing strategies based on prospect capacity and alignment with University priorities.
  • Organize and participate in cultivation meetings with foundation officials, prepare briefings for visits, and follow up on meetings.
  • Keep current with foundation trends and formulate the annual foundation plan/goals with internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM discipline, Master's in STEM preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong organizational, analytic, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Willingness to engage with faculty and understand their programmatic and research needs.
  • Knowledge of academic department structures and operations is preferred.
