General Definition of Work
The Assistant Director of Extended Day Enrichment Programs (EDEP) supports the Director of EDEP in the division-wide implementation, coordination, supervision, and continuous improvement of before-school, after-school, student holiday, and summer learning programs. The position assists with operational leadership, staffing coordination, program quality assurance, compliance monitoring, family communication, and support for expanded learning opportunities aligned with division priorities and student needs.
Essential Functions
- Assists the Director of EDEP in the division-wide coordination and implementation of before-school, after-school, student holiday, and summer learning programs;
- Supports daily operations across multiple EDEP sites to ensure consistency, program quality, and compliance with division expectations;
- Assists with program scheduling, staffing coverage, enrollment management, operational logistics, and site support;
- Covers site visits and provides operational support, coaching, troubleshooting, and follow-up to ensure effective program implementation;
- Supports the implementation of safe, engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate expanded learning environments;
- Assists in coordinating enrichment activities, academic support opportunities, and student engagement programming aligned with division priorities and student needs;
- Supports implementation of intervention and homework support structures aligned with the division’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices in expanded learning, school-age programming, youth development, and extended learning environments;
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, positive behavior supports, and social-emotional learning practices;
- Knowledge of operational practices related to multi-site program coordination, supervision, safety, and compliance;
- Ability to support safe, engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environments;
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, staff, school administrators, and community partners;
- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and project coordination skills;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond effectively to operational challenges, and maintain attention to detail in fast-paced environments;
- Ability to collect, review, and use operational data to support program improvement and decision-making;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, flexibility, and discretion in working with students, staff, and families.
Education And Experience
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in extended learning, youth programming, school-age care, educational programming, or related operational leadership roles is required.
- A Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, youth development, recreation, child development, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience supervising staff, coordinating programs, or supporting multi-site operations preferred;
- Experience working in public education or expanded learning environments preferred;
- Training in Basic First Aid.
Physical Conditions And Nature Of Work
- Contacts Duties performed typically in school settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces;
- Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 80 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required;
- Occasional travel with students of field trips;
- Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and there mechanical devises may be required;
- Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required;
- Lifting and movement of boxes containing food and drink or snack may be required;
- Daily personal and close contact with children, EDEP staff members and other school staff required to provide an effective learning environment;
- Regular contact with staff members and parents;
- Occasional contact with medical professionals.
