Assistant Director

Full-time, exempt position supporting the Program Director of the Maine Advocate Program.

About the role

This Assistant Director position is responsible for hiring and training new employees, motivating and supervising staff, and communicating weekly performance to the Director. You will perform intakes, coordinate participant staffing to manage service delivery, and ensure compliance with YAP and referring authority requirements. The role requires a commitment to strength-based, culturally competent, and unconditional care philosophy. Direct service and coverage are required, including availability to support staff, families, and group work.

Responsibilities

• Support the Program Director with hiring, training, and supervising new employees.
• Communicate weekly staff performance to the Director.
• Perform intakes and coordinate participant staffing to ensure appropriate service delivery.
• Manage compliance with YAP and referring authority requirements.
• Provide direct service and coverage, including support for staff, families, and group work.
• Apply knowledge of child welfare systems, mental health practices, juvenile justice systems, and budgetary concepts.
• Engage in proactive planning and creative problem-solving.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree generally preferred; equivalent experience in community-based agency programs is acceptable unless the referring authority requires a specific degree.
• At least one year of experience managing personnel and budgets.
• Experience with at-risk youth, probation, court liaison, or related fields is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current auto insurance coverage.
• Flexible schedule; non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
