WiredWest is a cooperative of the Municipal Light Plants (MLPs) of six towns (Becket, Heath, New Salem, Rowe, Washington, Windsor). The cooperative provides shared financial management, operational services, and maintenance for the six towns’ fiber-optic internet plants.

About the role

WiredWest seeks an experienced individual who can gradually assume the role of Executive Director (ED) from the existing/outgoing ED over a period of 6-12 months. During this transition, the Assistant Director (AD) will participate in all functions of the ED, involving 4-8 hours/week on average, including two monthly Zoom board meetings. Expected compensation during the training period is negotiable and modest—$12,000–$15,000/year. Upon successful completion of the training period and subject to Board approval, the candidate will assume the full role of ED, currently compensated at $30,000/year.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all functions of the Executive Director during the 6-12 month transition period.
  • Attend two monthly Zoom board meetings.
  • Travel to Cummington, Mass., as needed to meet with the current ED.
  • Travel to Goshen, Mass., to meet with the Treasurer for signing warrants and other financial responsibilities.
  • Prepare, read, and interpret financial reports, including P/L, Balance Sheet, and analytical documents.
  • Work in a consensus-building environment with the working Board.

Requirements

  • Fast, reliable internet connection.
  • Strong knowledge of typical business software, including Word, Excel, Zoom, and DropBox.
  • Familiarity with preparing, reading, and interpreting financial reports (P/L, Balance Sheet, and analytical documents).
  • Substantial knowledge of the nature, purpose, and operations of Massachusetts Municipal Light Plants (MLPs) organized to provide internet services.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong principles and ability to work collaboratively in a consensus-building environment.
  • Willingness to make at least a five-year commitment to the role of ED if selected.

Pay

  • Assistant Director (training period): $12,000–$15,000/year (negotiable).
  • Executive Director (post-training): $30,000/year.

Schedule

4-8 hours/week on average, including two monthly Zoom board meetings. Work is primarily remote, with occasional travel required.
