About the Role
Tulane University School of Law invites applications for the Assistant Director, Academic Advising for Student Affairs. The position assists with the implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities, counseling students on academic matters, orientation programs, and matters related to student activities and academic policy.
Responsibilities
- Strong student counseling and advising skills
- Understanding and familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act, particularly Section 504
- Ability to develop, plan, assess, and successfully implement student programs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to students, staff, and faculty
- Strong judgment and problem-solving skills
- Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Basic understanding of administrative and academic issues in higher education
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work-related matters
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of academic advising or other substantive student affairs work or transferable experience
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree
- 3 years of higher education student program development, student counseling, or other substantive student affairs experience in higher education
