About the Role
Responsible for leading, directing, and controlling the delivery department goals, objectives, and activities within an assigned territory.
Physical Requirements
- Keep shelves and vendors clean.
- Place product on hand truck or dolly (approximately 20 to 50 lbs per case).
- Push/pull hand truck to machine or shelves and load appropriate product.
- Climb in and out of vehicle and use proper lifting techniques.
Responsibilities
- Work side by side with the Delivery Manager to assist with management of the Delivery Department, ensuring accountability to department KPIs, goals, and objectives set by the Company.
- Assist in managing the department to ensure timely deliveries, proper rotation, merchandising, customer service, safe driving, and vehicle maintenance.
- Stand in during any absence of the Delivery Manager to fulfill the needs of the department.
- Manage assigned team headcount, update the organization chart, and track KPI requirements.
- Perform all work activities in accordance with established safe work practices and all Company policies and procedures.
- Ensure all assigned team delivery drivers adhere to DOT policies.
- Ensure all assigned team employees adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Ensure all account receivables are collected according to company policies.
- Assist the Delivery Manager with recruitment, interviews, and hiring of prospective employees, with approval from the Managing Director.
- Conduct assigned "Work-With" sessions to observe, critique, and improve delivery performance.
- Review and adjust daily work assignments of the assigned team as necessary.
- Oversee and conduct all performance reviews for the assigned team.
- Assist the Delivery Manager with research and implementation of route realignments to improve customer service, with approval from the Managing Director.
- Assist with direction and execution of the Delivery Department training program, and implement continuing education for employees to ensure professional and consistent performance.
- Implement corrective action and/or disciplinary plans for assigned team employees with assistance from the Delivery Manager as needed.
- Assist, conduct, and report safety/accident investigations for the department following company guidelines.
- Participate in company safety committee meetings and safety projects as assigned.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all routes and fill in during vacancies, sick leave, or vacation as necessary.
- Assist with special events as assigned.
- Attend and participate in all safety and driver’s meetings as instructed.
- Complete all special attention items communicated by the Sales Department.
- Promote the sales of company products through personal selling efforts and regular contacts with individual accounts, chain stores, and large retailers.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with owners, managers, and employees of all assigned accounts.
- Maintain open and clear communication with owners, managers, and other employees of the company.
- Monitor, track, and train proper operation, protection from damage, and return of all equipment issued to you and your assigned team.
- Demonstrate courtesy on the road at all times; be polite to other drivers as it reflects on the company’s image.
- Dress and maintain personal appearance in a professional manner according to company policy.
- Report immediately to the Delivery Manager any traffic violations (on or off duty) that may affect your CDL status and/or insurability.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
