About the role

As the Assistant Deli Manager, you will play a key role in managing and leading one of the busiest teams in our store. You will assist the Deli Manager in maximizing productivity and profit through effective merchandising, ordering, and inventory control. Your leadership will ensure the finest quality of product, the highest level of service, and an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Deli Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
• Oversee ordering, inventory controls, and product quality.
• Supervise and lead the Deli team, coordinating production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.
• Assist in hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Deli team.
• Unload and sort store deliveries, operate and maintain deli equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, and validate that team members follow these procedures.
• Brainstorm with the team to deliver top-quality products and outstanding customer service.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age with a preferred 2 years of supervisory experience and strong knowledge of deli or related food service.
• Dependable and reliable with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to take and give direction in a team environment.
• Outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude, capable of interacting with customers, taking special orders, and answering phones.
• Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff.
• Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
• Strong focus on detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Food Safety certification and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation.
• Strong organization and planning skills; able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to lift and carry product weighing up to 70 lbs., from 4” to 60”, for a distance up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance for up to 4 hours.
• Ability to stand for up to 4 hours continuously, for a total of 8 hours per shift.
• Operate slicers, wrapping, and cooking equipment; assist in maintaining all equipment in safe working condition.
