Assistant Deli Manager

About the role

As the Assistant Deli Manager, you will help customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while managing and leading one of the busiest teams in our store. You’ll assist the Deli Manager in overseeing department operations to maximize productivity and profit, including ordering, inventory control, product quality, and team supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing and merchandising the deli department for maximum productivity and profit
• Handle ordering and inventory controls, ensuring product quality
• Supervise and lead the Deli team, coordinating production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork
• Assist in hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Deli team
• Unload and sort store deliveries, operate and maintain deli equipment
• Ensure compliance with all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, and train team members on these procedures
• Brainstorm with the team to deliver the finest quality products, highest level of service, and the greatest customer experience
• Lift and carry product weighing up to 70 lbs. from 4” to 60” for distances up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance for up to 4 hours
• Stand for up to 4 hours continuously, totaling 8 hours per shift
• Operate slicers, wrapping, and cooking equipment, and assist in maintaining equipment in safe working condition
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age with a preferred 2 years of supervisory experience and strong knowledge of deli or related food service
• Dependable and reliable with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to take and give direction in a team environment
• Outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and ability to interact with customers, take special orders, and answer phones
• Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff
• Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals
• Strong focus on detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Food Safety certification and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
• Strong organization and planning skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
• Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs. horizontally/vertically from 4” to 60” for distances up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance for up to 4 hours
• Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours, totaling 8 hours per shift
