The Assistant Dean of Students (AP27-005) plays a crucial role in supporting student well-being, accountability, and success at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).

About the role

As a central support and coordination hub, the Assistant Dean of Students oversees systems that respond to student concerns, connects individuals to appropriate campus or community resources, and maintains a safe, equitable, and responsive campus environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage student care and advocacy processes
  • Oversight of conduct and accountability systems
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure a coordinated response to student needs
  • Develop and implement structured support plans, educational interventions, and programs promoting awareness, reporting, and student engagement
  • Support students experiencing barriers to success through timely support, advocacy, and clear pathways forward
  • Consult with faculty and staff on addressing student concerns
  • Contribute to a stronger culture of care and accountability

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education in areas such as student conduct administration, student engagement, crisis response, student wellbeing, student success, behavioral intervention, or duties related to the position
  • Two years of related experience in crisis management and response (can be concurrent with above)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years post-master's experience
  • Experience supervising full-time staff
  • Experience with Maxient system
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legal and cultural factors impacting student retention and graduation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage difficult and complex situations in a compassionate and empathetic manner
  • Experience administering programming within a community or higher education setting
